I took these on Friday at The End in Nashville...the band is a great new group called Chinese Whispers.

Thoughts?

Very nice. I tried a concert 2 days ago but couldn't get close enough, would love to know your settings/lenses.

Nice work. Did you shoot at ISO1600?

Some nice atmospheric shots, but most of them are pretty soft. Are you using a fast lens? How about some fill flash... most bands are okay with this unless you're at a big event.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, Chris...I shot at 1600.....

Bobster, at shows like this one, that tend to be smoky...(especially true at the End, because it's so small)...I try to avoid using any kind of flash because it usually ends up just lighting the smoke hanging in the air between the lens and the band...as a result, I have to shoot a lot more 'creatively' to slow the motion down.....anticipating movements and such.....but no, I don't have a really good fast lens yet...I'm sure that would help...most of those were shot around f4.5 or so.

Guroos, I was carrying three lenses.....an 18-55, a 35-80, and a 75-300.

Yikes! Buy a fast 50mm lens... isn't there a cheap 1.8 for the Canon mount? Essential for photography like this, and would have got you some excellent pics.

ahhhh....I will look into that asap...can't wait to see the difference that'll make....thanks so much!

Oh yeah, ISO 3200 on the 20D should be quite usable, especially if you're converting to b&w. The noise would be much more preferable over the motion blur, and can look quite good with rock photography.

See....this is why I really need to start reading instruction manuals.

Had no idea it would go to 3200.....but I just looked it up......oh yeah...next time will be MUCH better....hehe...you rock Bobster.

These are cracking, especially the lead singer alone. I also liked the backlit bassist.
