I'm wondering if anybody else out there has seen the Documentary Born Into Brothels? I just saw it this afternoon, and I was shocked to find out that it almost had more to do with the Kids With Cameras project than with children in Brothels.
I don't want to get into the subject matter of the film too much, but I was filled with a stong sense of joy to watch the children jump around and play with cameras. It was astonishing to see the photos they produced with simple P&S cameras, especially when you consider that they have not had any formal training at all. It reminded me of the joy I felt the first time I grabbed a camera. It also reminded me of how much I have lost that sense of joy. I miss that camera play, and I haven't had much of it recently.
Just wanted to pass that on: If you haven't seen it, you might want to consider seeing it before it leaves the theatres!

Haven't seen it, but can empathise with your comments.
I think we all try to become too technical and forget the sheer joy of taking photos...perhaps we need to re-evaluate our priorities and get back to basics.

You've piqued my interest Jason. Where did you see that documentary?

heh...I hear you a lot. Just the other day, I picked up my dsc-p52 and I just seemed to hold it so care-free, just like I used to. That little video that popped up in the left of that one link above showed the kids playing with the cameras -- I was moved.
