Party of One:The Loners' Manifesto" by Anneli S. Rufus

DPC'er Mark of SRQ originally posted this title in a thread and I am now only half-way through reading it and I wish I could make it required reading in every school in every country of the world. You don't have to be a hard-core loner to enjoy and benefit from this wonderful book. And thank you, Mark, for first introduing me to this amazing work.

Kyle, now you made me curious.
I just placed a hold on a copy at my library (and all that from my computer - I LOVE the internet)!

Someone else recommended this book to me. Is it really that good?

I posted this because I have noticed that quite a few of us on this site are some or all of the following: loners/or at least like a tad more time alone than "average", introverted/shy, creative/artistic, appear to create some extraordinary relations within the online community, depression, and the list goes on. This book, while like any other - can always be picked apart, for me brings together a constellation of facts, theories, literature, studies, real life anecdotes and much more to create an awesome new evolution of thought towards "the loner". I really wish I could have everyone read it. It's one of the best I have found for the loner him/herself and/or the rest of the world that has to live side-by-side with us. But if you read it and hate it, please forgive me for my personal enthusiasm!!!!!

I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks.

Promise I will shut up after this . . . it is only $10.17 (USA) on Amazon, with new & used available from $3.99. Not bad in my opinion. Cool photo on the front, too! lol

Hey Kyle,

You finally got to reading it huh? You probably read more of it than I did. I should pick it up again and start over. Here is the thread where I mentioned the book. The thread itself makes for some interesting reading for everyone too.

Glad you are enjoying the book. One thing I remember thinking while reading it was something like, "Wow she really took a risk writing a book like this , but she nailed it." I guess attempting to write any manifesto is a bit risky, because you are speaking for a large group of people (At least in this case. The Unibomber's manifesto hopefully doesn't have as many disciples). So you better get it right.

This sounds like a book I could really get into. I'm definitely happier alone than in the company of (too) many people. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks, Mark, for finding the original thread and posting it. It was an important one for me. Yes - the book nails it. So many "THAT'S ME" experiences reading it, that my head is spinning.

No problem. I just did a keyword search in the forums using the word "loner." Yeah, I also remember having those, "that's me" moments, while reading it.

I added it to my amazon wish list as a reminder next time I'm looking for a good book. (not a lot of free time right now...) It really sounds like something I'll relate to though, and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Another reason it is easy for me to follow her thoughts - East Bay is one of the places I lived for a while. Very cool - thanks!
