That photo has nothing to do with this. We are talking about innatimate, borring objects.
That photo captured a mood, a feeling, lonliness, poorness, sadness, neediness, but also a sense of being from the man. Despite all those things wrong with him, he is OUT there...working for what he needs (yeah, it's holding out a cup, but still). Most of all, it captured poverty, which was the challenge topic -- how can you argue with a winner like that.
