My name was Melissa Brown and when I got Married I changed it to Melissa King ...that was great! But the only problem I have it there is another Melissa King in my Home town and everyone who does not remember or know I got Married think's my work is the other girls in town!
What should I do

Well, I dont suppose you would change your name (again) just for the sake of photography. I don't have that problem, but if I was you I would use hmm....say... Melissa Brown-King. I don't know, just an idea. Both the last names are short so it's not such a mouth full, if it was me it would be a heck of a last name!

How about letting people know in your history.
By the way, your website looks great.

Contact a local newspaper and make a story of it, advertisment and clarification in one :)

I have a similar problem, I was born and raised in Colorado but now live in Illinois. About a year ago a friend was doing a web search for Scott Bacon to see if my web page showed up and he found a photographer..Scott Bacon...IN Colorado. His photos surpass my wildest imagination and ability; so when I did my website I included my middle name to hopefully keep from getting my beginner stuff confused with his professional beautiful work. Maybe just for business reasons you could hypen your name Melissa Brown-King? Good luck |

You oculd use Melissa Brown professionally? Or use your middle name.

| How about instead of just using Melissa King, try Melissa [middle name] King? Sooner or later everyone will start to recognize you by all three names instead of just the confusing two. |

| To be honest.....It looks and sounds a little strange. I think it's mostly because of the "nee" part. All I can think of is Monty Python. Sorry. |

Update your copywrite to have a hyperlink to your BIO including information on who/where you are. Offer your customers a one-time quick up date to their site on some minor issues in order to take advantage of updating your copywrite info.
or choose a psuedonym that works for you and start building that reputation.

| Melissa Anne King. There's nothing wrong with that. Why not use it? At least it's better than Melissa Gertrude King. (My apologies to anyone named Gertrude) |

| Actually a psuedonym isn't a bad idea either. My wife uses one in her writing. Why not use one for photography? |

I really really like Melissa Anne King. It sounds like a pseudonym already...it flows really well!

Well, that's up to you. Have you ever had a name you really liked? I remember when I was a kid I loved the Name Jason Bourne (yes from the books and a long time before the movies).
However once the movie came out I admit I stopped liking it so much.
I've always been partial to the female name April (admittedly I had a crush on a girl named April when I was a kid).
In all honesty, why not just use your maiden name? There are a lot of people that have done that (just don't ask me to back that up with facts). |

I agree with the suggestion to start using Melissa Anne King instead.
If a lot of your business involves face to face work with clients, include a small picture of you in the About page of your website.
