i like the treatment better in the second one, but think you might have cropped a bit tight on the left.

I opened up both pictures in two different windows and clicked between the both like a looping file. You can really tell the difference in the redone pictures POV. It gives you an illusion of being lower because you have more ski. And I think it looks a lot better, but as Skip said you may have cropped a bit to tight on the sides and the boarder imo is a little to big.
Overall the redone picture is a lot better because of the advanced editing and POV because of a hight ski crop. Great Job!

EDIT: Do what I did by opening both pictures in different windows and click back an forth. Isn't it amazing how a small difference in crop can make the picture look as if it was taken from a different angle. This time lower angle.
