There is something about windows and doors that I like, unique doors, windows in old houses etc... would be fun to try a challenge with that

Why do that when we can have another "revisited" challenge or just stick another Roman numeral onto the end of something that's been done before? Twice. You're not using your imagination enough. It's high time for Road Signs V

That does sound good. I like unique Architectural features such as you have described.

I'd love a challenge like that though I know I'd probably be unhappy with what I could take given lack of free time at moment and how that would probably limit where I went to take photos.

Here are some of my window and door shots:

Nah, I won't do another road sign for the rest of my days....was foolish enough to include obvious geographical signs that everyone hates these days...never saw so many 1's, 2's & 3's

I totally understand where you're coming from but just wanted to say two things:

1) Road Signs is an unusual case because many people hold a soft spot for it given it's status as very first DPChallenge theme ever. For that reason is usually gets repeated on or near the anniversary each year and probably will be repeated each year. I must admit I find it one of the least inspiring and least interesting themes ever envisaged but I understand why it comes up repeatedly.

2) There are certainly some themes which are very universal and also very useful to study for a developing photographer. It's only right that these should be repeated at regular intervals to allow new people to try them and to allow older members to try something different. Personally I think the technique based challenges fit this best (black and white, negative space, shallow depth of field, texture, high shutter speed, etc) but some subject based ones fit too (such as portrait, people, landscapes, macros and so on).

I would love to see challenge topics organised into technique, subject and conceptual themes and for there to be one of each in play at any given time.

This would be a great one for me. I'm always taking photos of windows and doors for some reason!

Good idea!

We had a Windows and Doors challenge back in the olden days.

Oh yes, so we did! I remember now!

I think it would a good one to repeat. It's a really nice topic to take something so universal and simple and have people find a creative and appealing image from it.
