Judging from my first submission into a challenge not a lot of people are like me. I feel that there is a lot of talent on this website. After voting on the "three" and "old and new" challenges. (I voted and commented on every image) I didn't see any bad photos in those challenges or on this website so far. I personally didn't and never will rate anything under a five. To me every picture has potential. If I take a picture of my kids it will mean more to me than "Joe or "Cindy"(just random names used). Therefore when I vote or comment on a image I try to visualize what the photograph means to the photographer. Just my two cents!!!!! Keep up the excellent work EVERYBODY.

For an example to justify my complaint. And I hope the photographer doesn't mind me using her as an example. Look at the voting on this picture. To me this picture means nothing. To the photographer and people like her though it means everything. This woman or someone she loves has survived something that not a lot of people can say they have done. I can tell this photo means everything to her because of the title. Because I am proud of the fact that she can say this and that she has went on with her life is a great thing and I applaud her for it. Hence the reason I gave it an 8. Not only is the picture of good quality but she has taken something that means a lot to her and shared it with us here.

Message for rubyrednails---I am happy that you are still her to share your visions with us. Please continue to do great work. Never give up.

Unfortunately, when making a good photo that is pleasing to the great majority of people, it is wise to not be too attached to the subject. If you take a crappy photo of something that means the world to you -- like your newborn son -- and it's out of focus, underexposed, overprocess, I'm giving you a 1. At the same time, if you take a picture of a pencil that just throws me out of my seat (for whatever reason) -- I'll give it a 10.

Good point about not being attached to the subject. I agree with this for that reason. That is why I will not submit pictures of my kids into a challenge. I am very picky when it comes to my work. If I don't see it as a 8 or better I won't submit it.

I'm brand-spanking-new here but here is my thoughts on your conversation:

I think every picture is the best picture in the world, to someone...but what makes some people great and everyone else good is if other people see the picture for what it is worth.
