This little fellow flew on my hand the other day and starting crawling around my finger. I thought this might make a good shot so I grabbed my camera !
What do you all think ? Is it better cropped right in or as it is with space around to get the right perspective ?

Good shot. I love macros... I prefer the second one. The negative space works well.

Great capture :) as my eyes aint what they used to be the croped version is better for me on the web and has much more detail but as a print of a decent size I agree with Yanik and would go with the original (did you get a tetinus boost btw?)

Very cool shot! Bugs sure are scary up close!

Thanks guys, I was favouring the one with the negative space more.
As it is summer here in Australia we get a lot of beetles flying around this time of year, but they are harmless !

Both are great shots. I was wondering if there was a way to bring out some of the dark areas in the bug. I hope you don't mind but I done a little editing to see if I could bring out a little more detail. Let me know what you think. Again both of your photographs are great.

Yep I agree with your idea about bringing out the detail in the darker areas. These were straight out of the camera no photoshop !

Being still is always difficult without a tripod. bug on the left finger, camera in the right hand, both elbows fixed hard on the table and held my breath !

That's a pretty wild looking bug. What did its back look like. It has little antler things like a June bug I shot last year. Weird June bug. Ugly mofo.

Yes Jacko similar looking bugs but this one had the colour that you see on the edge, on its back as well. Which one did you prefer ?

Great shot of what I most hate in this world - bugs!!! Seriously, terrific shot. I have really worked at trying to appreciate the skill that goes into these shots even if I honestly don't like looking at the subject matter. That's a hint for all you flower-picture-haters out there! LOL

Thanks ! You are honest and you are fair when it comes to voting...it's a shame some people can't judge fairly when it's just simply the subject matter that doesn't interest them.
