I was going though some of my pictures saved on CD and found this one:



Always meant to find out what these guys were, but never got the chance. Does anyone know?

kirbic, damn it...I think you are right.

It is certainly an Aphid, but over here we seem to have just two types...grenn and black.

Now I'm all confused?? We only have green and black in UK...what's happening, a red Aphid!! I want to hide somewhere...!!

If they are on plants you care about, These guys should take care of them quite nicely.

Thanks, Britannica...we don't those either!

We have Ladybirds..they eat the little bas****s!

Thanks, that's what I thought they were. They were covering several plants in the cow pasture behind our house. They appeared one day and were gone the next. David, we have quite a few of those here already. Actually have a couple good pics of them. LOL Never would have guessed you could buy them though.

Never saw red aphids before but these are aphids of some sort...you can see them drinking sap from the stem.

Carmine (dark red) aphids are usually seen feeding in large colonies on Silphium perfoliatum (cup plant): this aphid appears to have a very high reproductive rate, but a short life cycle, and there is no serious damage.
