Looks to me like a red head [male] woodpecker. Not an expert on birds but I have seen them around my town in the spring and fall time.
EDIT: BTW very nice capture!

Yup. The male has the red from the beak across the whole top of the head to the back of the neck. The female has the red just on the nape of her neck. |
