Can you tell me how to make a photo sepia without any special plug ins?

in Photoshop 6, you can use the Sepia action in the default action set.

You can also turn it into a duotone. First change to Grayscale, then to Duotone Mode. Then, when you have a color combination you like, change back to RGB for the final output.
