I got the perfect photo today but it required too much editing (burning, dodging and cloning) so here it is...

Wow, the eyes really say it.
Can you post the original as well? (Then some of the veterans and experts may be able to teach us what else they would have done with it).

I see no evodence, within this image, of anything that can't be handled with basic editing. If you've cloned, you've done a damned good job of it. Post the original and let's see whatcha got, dude.

I'm not sure how well it would fare in "pain", looks more sad than in pain, but a nice shot regardless.

I think you did a good job with it! The edited version looks quite good to me.

Poor guy, why so sad?

I thought about that, I think it is because he is all alone...

I see your problem. Simple curves take care of the contrasty light, but you need the clone tool to get rid of the OOF grass blades.

Regarding his expression, that's a natural gorilla expression, their lips are downturned. Has nothing to do with being sad, any more than a dolphin is really smiling.

Nice cloning job you did.

You did a fantastic job with the editing, I think. Shame the challenge is not advanced editing, I like your take on the theme a lot.
