It's about time to replace my monitor. Does anyone have any recommendations for a monitor that has "accurate" (or can be made accurate) color rendition?

I'm guessing that CRTs still beat LCDs in terms of quality and accuracy for photographic work. But I'm open to either...

Thanks!

Probably the most highly recommended (but expensive) monitors are the LaCie Electron Blue series. If you search the forums, there are two-three recent threads discussing monitors, including these.

Satisfied (extremely satisfied) 22" Electron Blue user here. And when I bought mine, it cost me 1400 dollars. Never regretted it. Quite a but cheaper now.

I just took a look at the LaCie monitors (online) and I like what I see. One question I have is... do I need a better quality video card to take advantage of the monitor, or will most video cards work fine?

I do know that the card I have has controls necessary for monitor calibration... I've done that with my current monitor. I'm just wondering if "color accuracy" is video-card-dependent in the same way as it is monitor-dependent?

Thanks!

I think "accuracy" only comes into it in that you need enough pixels at sufficient bit depth and refresh rate. I've only hooked one of those (LaCie) to a Mac G4, and we didn't use a separate video card for that.
