I was wondering what the zoom capabilities were and how versatile it was. If you have this camera please give me your opinion.

James, you are talking about a digital SLR camera here.
That means it uses interchangable lenses, i.e. you can put on different types of lens. Therefore, its zoom capabilites are whatever zoom lens you put on it.
As to versatility - can't get more versatile than being able to put on there what you like, right? |

I bought the 300D last Saturday, yesterday(Wednesday)it broke, the focusing screen fell out. So, I haven't had much chance to use it.
It is a nice camera (Black Kit) and of course offers the choice of different, interchangeable, lenses. The kit lens, I got the EF-s 18-55mm USM lens in my kit and it appears quite good.
I will let you know more, when I either get the exchange or repair sorted.

SLR: Single Lens Reflex. The Digital Rebel isn't a Point and Shoot camera. This means when you buy it (unless you buy the "kit" that comes with a lens) there will be no lens - just the camera body. It doesn't come with memory cards either.

I love my digital rebel. This is my first DSLR. This is a great camera for beginners entering the DSLR segment. There are tons of things on this camera to to and learn. I bought a second copy of the manual as I refer back to it so much with features and techniques. The 6 mega pixel is good as it works well with my computer system not too large of files. Tons of available lens by different manufactures so I must say the zoom factor depends on what lens you have. The on-board flash I think works really well. I would recommend a flash though. Overall good camera. |

Pretty much depends on money invested. It's a lot bigger then your current camera so the ability to bring it everywhere may possibly be a problem.

I have the rebel and have been really surprised and impressed by the quality. The only downside to it are the flash intensity and no mirror lock...but you can fix that with a hacked firmware. The other drawback is the fact that you are then committed to buying lenses and all the accessories. It can get really expensive. Otherwise its awesome.

Blast from the past, the voice of Simon le Bon; 'the reflex..flex..flex..flex' ;)
Damn, did I just admit to some dodgy 80's music knowledge?
I'm putting on some Jesus and Mary Chain (on vinyl) to cleanse my afflicted mind :)

Another victim of the fable that produces a fear of silver cameras! I'm sorry to inform you that silver is the cool colour of choice. Better luck next time!

Not a fear of silver :)
They were doing a special on the black kit...upgraded lens + 1Gb CF Card for same price as normal kit. |

Yeh - any canon eos lens or canon eos fit lens (made by sigma, tamron etc) will be ok

thanks for that mike. I hope to save enough to buy a rebel and get some use out of my other lens.
