I would love some comments/critique on this quadtone please,
2 versions one slightly lighter.

lighter version.

Please be honest, pull it to pieces if need be,
Thanks in advance,
Paul.

I like the lighter one a lot better, it brings out more detail. (I hope that my monitor here is not playing tricks with me, though :) ). In fact the lighter one is rather nice :)
I'm no expert, but to me the pictures look a little busy.. I think if somehow there had been a little more sky right above the reflection of it in the water, it might have looked even better. Of course, you couldn't have possibly moved the hill out of the way..
Nice toning on the images!

I prefer the darker one.
The lighter one seems a bit over-sharpened to me.
I really like the way the light reflects on the closest stems. In the lighter version, IMO, these light games are lost due to the lower contrast.

I am also no expert, but I think I agree with Arpita that it looks a bit too busy.
I think what bothers me is the bussiness of the left side of the image, with all the stems details as opposed to the right side, where nothing really happens.
I also agree that a bit more sky could add some needed air.

Overall, I think it's a nice picture. The tones are wonderful and I like the mood.

As a rule, the "more" tones, the lighter the image has to be to exploit them. Quadtones, and even Tritones, tend to block up on darker exposures. This is a good example. Texturally, the picture's awful busy, and the mass of the busy texture is on the left side in an element (the hedge of trees) that isn't doing much for the image. It's otherwise very nice.

Thanks Robert,
I take the busy aspect, I was trying to bring out the reflections of the trees in the water more, I'll give it a go, maybe leave it in colour,
Paul.
