Is there such a thing as good flair? Is it ever artistic, to use sunspots and flairs? Or are they just an annoyance?
Edited vs. Original
I was playing with my new infrared filter, but everything was coming out magenta. Don't know if it's supposed to - I'm assuming not. I had my camera on a setting of 200 ISO, F11-F16, and from 0.5" to 20". What am I doing wrong?
Just one I liked

im not an expert on IR filters or anything, but i do believe magenta is normal for IR photos, and can be fixed with a custom white balance i think.

Thank you. :-D I've never used infrared, and obviously, you can't see through the lense when the filter is on..so I was trying to judge my shot by trial and error. Trying for the signs challenge. The sign is completely wiped out, but I liked the effect of the flair a lot.

Here are a couple of threads on the topic:

The first one describes the PP technique to finish the shot. It got kind of out of hand, but there is some pretty good info in there, mostly from RobE and ChrisTm. They seem to be quite knowledgable about IR using digital cameras. The second one has some of my sample work, after reading and trying techniques described in the first thread.
The 10D (and 20D, 300D) are not IDEAL for IR work because of the filters used in front of the sensors. IR work is possible nonetheless, but just requires a little more effort.
Obviously, IR is very difficult at this time of year (in the north east at least) since there is not much foliage or grass. Pines do reflect a fair amount. I've put my IR trials on hold until some greenery comes back.
Good luck, and I hope this helps a little.
