Finally some blue sky and some sun! A few weeks ago, it dumped 24 inches of snow on us. The next day came the inversion. Cold, foggy, smoggy, overcast. No shadows anywhere. I did manage to get some interesting shots, though:
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
And some of you may remember this macro from last year's inversion at this time:
Finally, the inversion is over, and we can see the sky again:
I have to say, as interesting as an inversion is, our bodies need sunlight! My family was getting all depressed and grouchy. Now it's all sunshine and smiles!
(I'd love some comments on these photos; my wife didn't check for colors, and weird things can happen with dealing so intricately with contrasts and tones)

Great shots--I feel stupid but I'll have to research what an inversion is (I thought you were inverting the photos ;), not to mention hoar frost. We have some b*tch'n frost, but no hoar frost.
Great shots, especially the contrasts against the rock.

You can find a definition of an inversion here.
Basically, a high pressure system comes and just sits on you. Our alpine valley isn't known for its smog, but when an inversion happens, it's unnerving to have the air smell like car exhaust.

Wonderful collection of images. The white on red is striking. |

Fantastic pic's - the closest I get to frost photo's is if I freeze a leaf in my freezer!!! The temperature today was 30degrees, no wind, no clouds and 65% humidity.

These are fantastic David.
I envy you something interesting happening with your weather - although that pollution thing sounds worrying in such open space... |

What can I say? It would all sound trite. Your work is always amazing and these go on to prove it. Thank you, David!

Thanks for your comments all. Today was lovely, warm, and with pollution-free blue skies. Jon, we are in a valley, so when the inversion comes, the mountains kind of trap the air on the surface. But today, beautiful!
