So, we'll be seeing each other in Downtown on Jan 29th, but it's also getting close to February! Do you want to get together in February? I would like to! We need to decide when and where we want to go.
Here are dates that I can join you:
Feb 20
Feb 21 (holiday)
Feb 26
Feb 27
Location ideas:
LA Arboretum (practice with flowers)
West Hollywood (what's here? We never shoot here)
CalScience (California Science Center - it's free ($1 donation is nice though)
Hiking somewhere?
Hollywood Blvd / Highland
I am open to ideas. I've only lived in LA for 1.5 years so I need your input please :)
Please list your free dates and your location ideas in a post to this thread. You may want to watch or email this thread to keep up with it :) I just discovered that great feature!! :) Heehee
PS. Should we start going out with specific education factors in mind? Like: Macro shooting, people shooting, lighting, eric's studio (heehee), textures... or should we just shoot whatever, like we always do? :) Just trying to think of ideas...

Are you two members of LACDG (LA Canon dSLR group?)
Frequent informal shoots/meets, yahoogroups list.

Feb 21 is also good for me I think. I would like a Feb outing... for that matter, once a month would be a good plan of action. As for locations, assuming good weather, Hollywood Blvd sounds fun. I don't think there would be a shortage of photo possibilities! If something else appeals more to the crowd, then I will go with whatever.
I agree that we should start focusing on particular genres and/or techniques on our outings... I guess Jan 29 will be primarily architectural.
lynnesite: More info about this group would be great...I haven't really done Yahoogroups before. How do you access the group?

I think Jan 29th will have everything actually. We are going where all the culture and life is (the flower district & toy district). I think we'll get architecture and people and macro! I hope so anyhow!
Yahoo Groups are easy. You just sign up for a yahoo account and click on "Groups" on Yahoo's home page. //www.yahoo.com You can search for the groups you like or be invited by friends. Then, you communicate via message board (it can be set up through your emails to make it easier too). You can upload photos and have polls. I used to manage a group a while back. I never heard of the Canon DSLR group though. That might be fun to join! Poor EricQ.
As for Feb, let's think of a focus. I would love to get better at DOF. My skies are always white when I get a nice blurred background. I'd also love to learn studio lighting and perhaps learn how to do product photography one day!
:)

make sure you turn the "marketing preferences" to off, where you customize your profile, to avoid Yahoospam.
It's a good group, with a wide range of equipment. Several are meeting at the Sepulveda Basin to shoot birds, and plan to swap some lenses for comparisons, all L glass. There's a Canon rep that's a group member too.

Anyone doing a night shoot in the L.A. area?
I would be most interested to join up and learn some technique. |

Garry: Let's do it... I don't have anything planned but would love to get out and do it! Just need to replace my broken tripod!

Perhaps we could meet on a weekend night to do night photos. I know the group is meeting on Jan 29th and Feb 21st. What about the weekend after the 21st? We could go out Saturday night? What do you think?

Sounds like a blast... I may be able to do that weekend. I need to get a new tripod though, as well as a remote shutter release for long exposures. I took this shot long ago (over 20 years) that I have been thinking about trying to replicate on digital.

Did we figure out where we are going on the 21st of Feb? Maybe since it's a holiday, we should go where the tourists are and get buslting Hollywood photos? Or do you want to go to the Arboretum then? I am up for either!!!

Do you all want to go to Anza Borrego in Feb? We could go Feb 20th and skip the Feb 21st get together (as I'll need rest after that adventure).
Let me know

Hummph! I see you Southern Califonians don't invite us Arizonans even though it is just as close for us to go as it is for you. That is OK. Just keep your little exclusive group all to yourselves. We will just stick to our cowboy ways over here.

Hi everyone,
Feb 21 is the date, where are we going?
Hollywood was suggested. Are you all interested in roaming around various parts of hollywood? We could start at Mulholland (at the look out closest to Cahuenga). We could then travel down to Sunset & Vine, then over to Hollywood, walking to La Brea. After that, we could venture into Melrose maybe.
Any thoughts?

I don't want to really vote on a location since I am not sure yet whether I can even go, but if I was going, I still think Hollywood could be a lot of fun.

Hi all,
It was fun Sat. at Downtown. I like Hollywood myself. I've shot numerous times there myself but I'll be interested to see how others "see" things with their photographic eye. The Mann's Chinese is always nice and there are people dressed as characters posing for tourists. There is also the Hollywood and Vine complex as well. Maybe we can see who has the best telephoto shot of the "Hollywood" sign from there. We can then walk by the wax museum, max factor museum, Ripley's museum, and the Egyptian Theather, the Pigley Wigley bar, and a few other spots. We can then drive to Melrose if we want to or better yet, walk down Sunset with all the signs/neon signs at night. Plus the Sunset Blvd. offers a really nice nighttime view of LA as you look down the hill southward.

Hey Sandman...no problem! qmdi (Eric) goes on these outings with his Nikon. Other than some light ribbing, he fits in just fine. Please feel free to join us!
I have been wanting to do a metro jaunt, and if I go on the 21st, I would consider the metro... the stations have their own photo ops as well. We also try to carpool if we can. Where are you located? We would love to have you join us!
