Visited my parents at the weekend and got this shot of my father. Its quite heavily cropped so I do have more to play with.
I did mess with the eyes and managed to get a halo around his hair (doh!)
You can see I rotated it 15d, any ideas on turning this into a better shot?

i would say crop less of his face and more of the background. For this kind of emotional portrait, seeing more of a complete face might be more meaningful to you later on. I'm all for creative shots, but here I think more of the face would help.

Thanks Lori :) my biggest worry about this picture is I'll have eyebrows like that soon!

Take 2 is much better.
Anyway, if you get eyebrows like that you can trim them, so don't worry.

Hey, I'm already trimming them but after 70 you just can't trim them fast enough!
btw, my father is a budding author(though not published) and was looking for the flyleaf kind of picture.
