On another thread (I didn't want to hijack it), someone mentioned photographers sending PM thank you's to people for adding you to their favorites.
I have always hovered over the email button wondering whether that would be considered nice, proper, or a bothersome imposition to send an email for that.
What do you think? What do most people do?
If it's proper ettiquite, I'll apologize now for not having sent any. A number of people have added me recently and that made me a lot less "depressed" about scoring low for a photo I really liked (I don't mind it as much when I don't like em as much ;) )
So I'll keep it short, and say it here. First sorry..., and Thank You.
(Reminds me of a story someone once told me that every morning when they woke up they would say "I'm sorry" to their wife. When she would ask why, he would say, "I'm sure at some point today I'll owe you apology.". ;)

i guess it depends on how popular you are... ;-)
i try to thank those who pick me or my images. it might not mean much to them, but it sure means a lot to me! and, sometimes it opens up dialogues that can provide some really interesting feedback on how others see your work...

| I prize every favorite I get, but I've only acknowledged a few people (mostly because I didn't want to intrude by spamming them). I'll always reply if the favorite comes with a PM. If I don't recognize the name, I'll usually browse through that person's portfolio, maybe add a few comments or even add that person as a favorite (though I might wait a few days so it doesn't look like I'm just reciprocating). I'll also send a note if someone made my day (whether by favorite, comment or forum note) or hit a particular benchmark. |

I have the "thank you" syndrome so drummed into me, that I almost panick if I can't get out a thank you in time and I tend to get caught up in thanking people for their thank you's! LOL. I have often wondered this same question - am I actually making work for folks by jamming up their inbox? At what point to you stop? I will be very interested in seeing some of the replies to this post.

maybe people who don't want to be thanked should put a note in their bio, something like Please do not bother thanking me for anything, or I will un-favorite or un-comment whatever I did to make you feel like thanking me.

Hmm.... I guess favorites is really deserve a PM, but I'm afraid I have never really send one for favorites. If at all then only for comments...
But this is simply because I never really notice those favorites untill it's like months later and then I am too embarrased to PM :-/
