Well Obviously the Digital Rebel & the 70-200 F/4L isnt the best setup for shooting hockey but I gave it a shot lastnite.
I kept around 70 pics.
These are some examples, I didn't bother to remove any noise, I only cropped, adjusted levels, resized, and sharpened real quick.
They are far from great, but I thought I would share a few.
Any tips would be helpfull (Besides a better cam and faster lens) I know that already!!
;)

Not too bad really! Its tough under those lighting conditions. Levels helped alot for me. I also stabalized my camera on the seat in front of me, no one was sitting there. I'm also a big hockey fan and could see plays developing, which helps with action shots like these.

These were taken with the exact same camera and lens. Syracuse Crunch

Were you shooting through the glass? That would cause some problems.

Nice Shots Martin!
Mine were at a local rink with a Rec. League, looks like you had alot better action to capture ( and a little better light )..
Impressive stuff.

I'm shooting hockey tomorrow, should I forget about using flash?

I donno about the setup but I really liked those.
I think you have some real great stuff there. My personal fav - hock10.jpg - is absolutely wonderful!
There's only a lot of grain in most of them, but I guess most of this can be neatImaged pretty easy, no?

Where were you shooting from? If you can shoot from either penalty box, that's the best, but the announcer's booth is pretty good too. In either case, you need to watch out for stray pucks. Trying to shoot through the glass is a waste and unless you have strobes up in the rafters, flash is minimally effective.

Rink lighting usually sucks, but it looks like you did pretty well.

Back in the day, I used to do some shooting for the Kalamazoo Wings. I always shot from the K-Wings penalty box and stood on the bench.

Then that's where I'll be shooting from :)

Thanks for the advice, makes all the difference. Never been photographing at a hockey match before. Will be usingthe 70-200IS/2.8 at the game, and 24-70/2.8L in the lockerrooms.

Thanks for all the tips/hints as to shooting Hockey. It was fairly difficult, but all things considered I think it went OK. The newspaper was very satisfied. :)

Here are the photos from Asker - Vif, mostly focusing on five NHL pro players.

I think you did a great job.

I particularly like 5321 because it shows just how much flex players get into their sticks on a hard shot. 5531 is good too, just because it's atypical of most hockey images.

Thanks for sharing these.

Maybe we'll get some NHL play yet this season here in the US, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Excellent work, Terje!
Looks like you had a great vantage point, and you handled the indoor lighting quite well. Too many really good ones to choose a favorite! I'm sure the newspaper was impressed as well.

I'm still hoping we get a shortend season this year in the US. Still plenty of time for a good season.

Again, great work!

Cheers....Martin
