Sigma Zoom Normal-Telephoto 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital AF B&H Listing

Anyone have this lens? Want to share your thoughts on it?

I'm in the market for a versatile zoom telephoto lens. My current budget will likely prevent me from getting a nice fast one, so I'm looking at lenses such as the one above.

I really like the concept of these lenses designed for digital, perticularly because they're more compact (leaving more room in my bag for more lenses...hehe...though perhaps not more room in my wallet), but don't have any experience with anything other than the D70 kit lens.

Any thoughts/advice on this lens or other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't know about that lens, sorry.

But check out my posts about the 18-125 Sigma in this thread.

It will give you more range at the bottom end, but less at the top.

Another one to consider is the new Tamron 18-200 coming out. I don't know how good it will be. I know the Sigma 18-125 is good and got good reviews when I decided to buy it. I've had it a few months and its the one I use most.

It's a bit more than this other lens you cited, around $250.

kearock,

Multiple lenses in a camera bag is one philosophy. Of course, some would argue that shots are lost while changing lenses. Your choice of a 55-200 indicates that you want some midrange along with at least minimal telephoto. Another consideration is the Sigma 50-500 EX. Below are some examples of photos taken with this lens on a D70:

It is a bit larger and heavier than the 55-200, so this lens may not meet your needs. However for a companion to the D70 kit lens, it certainly covers alot of focal range.

For your consideration.
