These are not on Canon's lens list, yet they were introduced in 2002. Has anybody seen one of these mythical beasts?

They are EXPENSIVE, even used. I've seen a couple occasionally on ebay and they generally go for $1500.

DOF is literally a few mm at f1.0

Canon discontinued them some time ago, along with the 200mm f1.8 because they use arsenic and/or lead in the glass elements.

The used prices on the 50/1.0 are insane, and just keep going up. From the reading I've done, I don't believe it's as sharp as the 50/1.4, and so despite the one stop diference, I went with the 1.4 and never looked back. the 50/1.0 is very much a specialty lens, and at today's prices, it's only for serious collectors and those few with an absolute need for the speed.
The 85/1.2 is a great alternative if the longer focal length is not an issue. I went cheap, and use manual-focus Zeiss 75/1.5 which gives great results.

Sadly, I can't buy it in 6 days on ebay. I have to wait til summer, but want to give my dad a head's up to help me save up for it. Yes, it's only $100 or so, but with zero money outside of bills, it takes a lot of effort to save $20 a month for fun!

Just do a search on ebay for them. I'm sure they will be available when you have the money.

Does this lens work well on the EOS? AF? AE?
