I have received this email today and I wanted to share and ask for your opinion on what to do. I am thiinking that it won't be a problem to give her the permission:
Hello Tiberius,
I am a retired lady living on disability who used to insert my own photographs, in combination with inspirational sayings and quotes to send out to my friends. I have now depleted my own supply and discovered Photo.net as a new resource. I would love to use your photo depicted in the manner displayed on this page and I am asking you for permission to do so. It is my sincere hope that you will join the other members who have allowed me to use theirs.
If you wish, I can include a link or your Email address. This is not a commercial enterprise for me, I am just trying to spread a little light into the world. As I have been doing this for some time now, I have discovered that my messages are being forwarded and spreading around the globe amongst friends. This is very gratifying for me as we live in such chaotic times and can all use a little inspiration.
Although I have not been able to photograph for the past 10 years, I made the decision to post some of my old photos on Photo.net to establish my credibility.
My link to Photo.net is //www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=458325
I look forward to your response.
Peace, Tutte Peever

Real love is not based on attachment, but on altruism.
In this case, your compassion will remain as a humane response
to suffering as long as beings continue to suffer.

I would send it to her, just make sure you send a small version (un-printable) and a simple contract that states that she cannot use it for commercial purposes.

I don't think I have to send her the file. She only wants to use the one that she can download from photo.net.
Though good point with the contract.
Thanks!

With a polite request such as this, who could refuse? Can't you mark the photo somehow? ID it, I'm sure she will credit you fully anyway, I would be proud to spread a message that make other think, specially on humanitarian issues, never enough reminders about poverty and the less fortunate.

sounds nice to me...I'd put my name in the photo though in the lower corner or something.

As long as you think you will never market that photo, go for it. Just be sure the credit line says © "your real name" 2004. No need to put the name ON the image IMO, this would denature it.
If you have any thought in your mind of ever selling this powerful image, don't let her use it. But on the other hand, gawd knows how many times it's been stolen already.
Be sure you give her a lo-res version only useable for screen viewing, but I'd guess that's all she can acquire from the site, right?

Not her on here own, but all of those 'spread the love types' together sending 'words to wisdom' clog the internet - that's exactly the kind of drivel my mother send to me :D
Some people love it so no harm at all really, just jesting :D
You may get some work from it if you included an email addy so fingers crossed!

I think I would have asked her to be a little more specific about how she wanted to use it. She wasn't very specific in the e-mail you posted. Like how many times it will be sent? Your picture could wind up in some chain letter/spam thingy.
