ok, I fear my d70 is broken. I can not get the in camera flash to go off, even in auto mode the flash will pop up but it will not fire the camera just compensates for it with long shutter speeds. I used a flash in the hot shoe from my old film camera, and it fired fine and I tried it again just now and it works in the hot shoe still. I fear that I broke it, can someone please please help. and if I did break it what do I do to get it fixed? |

Weird! I'd say go back to where you bought the camera and ask them about it. If you bought it long-distance, the information you got with the camera should contain the address of your nearest Nikon Service Centre. You can call them and ask. If the camera is still under warranty, and it's a malfunction, they should be able to fix it for you free of charge.
Hope that helps.

Mine does the same thing...if i can ever bring myself to part with it for more than a day I'll take it in while the warranty is still intact.
it's not your fault i don't think...mine was a spontaneous problem...no event triggered it that i know of.
for now it has an attractive piece of scotch tape holding it down. 2 months left on the warranty i think. anyone wanna lend me their D70 for a few weeks?

i have read that using an older flash that draws more juice than the camera is made for can damege the camera - though i'd think it would be the hot shoe, and not the built in flash that gets damaged. it's still not a good idea to use the old gear on a new camera unless you know for sure it won't damage it.
