Hello again SO-CAL DPCER'S,

I kinda of jumped the gun on my last post to Arie (I didn't read my e-mail).
Arie asked that I formally introduce myself to the group. You can read a little about me in my dpc bio but to elaborate further here is a short summary on me: I am in my mid 30's and am the father of two sets of twins(which makes it very difficult to network and explore my hobby as much as I would like). I work in Law Enforcement in the NO-CAL area and at some point would like to set up a small studio in my garage in my home. I live in the city of Brentwood, which is one of the fastest growing cities in California. Arie to clear up your question, Brentwood in Northern Cal is about 40 min. outside San Francisco near the cities of Walnut Creek and Concord. I hope that helps, I forgot about the Brentwood in So-Cal, I understand why that could be confusing.
I shoot with a digital rebel and used to have some umbrella lights that were handed down to me from my mother, before they were stolen. I am currently trying to build up my inventory of equipment.
I grew up in the LA basin in the city of Lancaster and moved up north about 17years ago. I still miss SO-Cal and just recently came back from a trip down there visting my parents. I just missed the big storm that rolled through there.
Photography has always been in my blood and wish I could take formal training and schooling to expand on this addicting hobby. I have read most of your user profiles and find all of you very talented .
I hope you all know me a little better, looking forward to meeting all of you.

Donald:

I hope that you are able to join us in January! I understand about how work and kids can make it very difficult... I'm in the same boat myself.

To both Erics...

My email was originally directed to Photomayhem since we had already been discussing the subject. Haven't seen your name on here lately Eric (qmdi), but I'm glad you're back as well. I've been up late nights wondering if I would ever see that 3 bucks! Tell you what... give me your ribbon and we'll call it even!! Congrats on that again by the way.

Since the three of us (me, Eric and Eric) are in the same area, we might as well carpool together. I can drive or either of you can. Unlike Photomayhem though, I don't have GPS.

Since it looks like we're all driving, I think we will need details from our fearless leader (Arie) about where we can park and where we should meet.

Hi Everyone,

Wow DDYJR, great bio! I totally just expected a brief hello!

So, we'll now have a ericQ and ericP to go with their screen names :)

Meet up, let's see. Since you are all driving, let's meet on the corner of Figueroa Terrace & College Ave. It's in Chinatown. You can park there (FREE) and each take a $0.25 cent DASH bus with me to Union Sq (where we can take another $0.25 DASH to the Fashion District)! If you don't care about parking fees, you can pick me up in Chinatown or just wait for me in the Fashion District. I have no idea how much parking is. We should try to meet at 8am in Chinatown if you wish to park free!

Here's how to get there from the 5 South:
5 South, exit 110 South
110 South, exit Chinatown (on LEFT). It's right after Academy Rd & the Stadium)
Go straight on Hill Street to College Ave and make a RIGHT
Go up College Ave til you get to Figueroa Terrace. Park! There's a DASH stop on the NE corner of Fig & College. Wait there! Call my cell. I'll be there soon or already waiting for you :)

Make sense?

If this is on the calendar for Jan 29, I think I might be able to join if the invitation is still open.

Only a week & two days away! Anyone else joining us on the 29th?

OK... I am going to be in LA for the weekend in the Culver City area... Saturday and part of Sunday I will have time to take pictures... Anyone want to get together or have some photo op suggestions that would be much appreciated. :)

Hi all you LA area DPCers...

I will be in LA tomorrow and Sunday and am looking for a few photo opportunities that you folks might suggest. I will be in the Culver City area but will have time to drive places.

Probably will not have any trouble coming up with places to photograph on my own, but still wonder what you might suggest.

Thanks.

I would definitely check out Venice beach! It's one of my favorite places to shoot.

There are so many great locations in the LA area, here are three I often enjoy:

* Getty Museum

* Venice Boardwalk to Santa Monica Peer

* Downtown LA walk from Bunker Hill neighborhood to Olvera Street to Union Station

bdobe and qmdi,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I had forgotten about the Guggenheim. There have been so many super shots of it here at DPC. I'd like to photograph it.

Venice Beach and the Santa Monica pier are on my list.

I know I will not be able to get everywhere I want, but I really like your suggestions. Thanks!

The beaches are always fun! I am going the week after or I'd meet you. What time do you leave Sunday? I could meet up with you during dinner time in Hollywood if you want to photograph the blvd :)

I'd like to do that but duty calls me back to Phoenix Sunday night. I'd very much like to join Southern Cal DPCers on a photo safari sometime though. :)

Are you still trying for a trip out to mojave desert for night shots?
01/21/2005 03:12:03 PM · #93
Yeah, that'll be later this year. Gotta go when a full moon falls on a weekend! :) I really want to take photos of some old ghost towns like my favorite night photographer: //www.lostamerica.com

I might be available on Sunday. Did you have somewhere in mind?
01/21/2005 04:40:51 PM · #96
Hi there, I can't join you on Sunday, I am sorry.

I do want to find out who's meeting me at the DASH stop in Chinatown on Saturday morning and who's meeting at Union station?

8am meetup at the Dash on College & Figueroa
8:30am meetup at Union Station (by the busses - the oval)

Post here so I can create a list!

If you haven't given me your first name and cell phone number, please PM me. If you need mine, please PM me! :)

Great Don, I'll see you there (just over 1 week now). If you are running late, call my cell. If you don't have the number, PM me. :)
Talk to you soon!

As promised, I will also be there!

Since EricP and EricQ are in my area, should we carpool? I don't mind driving, or someone else can. If not, I will just head down myself. Either way, I am going.

Great Chuck! Do you have a way to call the Erics to see if they want to carpool (in case they don't check the thread)? We have a week, so I am sure they'll get in touch with you by then!

I am looking forward to seeing you! :) Have a great weekend!!!

PS. Are you meeting in Chinatown at 8 or at Union at 830?
