I assume this camera holds it's own in outdoor (daylight) sporting events, but has anyone had success using it in a indoor sports setting, more specifically a high school gymnasium setting (basketball, etc.)?

I have an FZ10 which is basically the same camera, this is where it shines compared to other cameras, as being able to use F2.8 at the far end of the zoom coupled with the stabilisation makes this perfect for low-light conditions. The stabilisation may not be able to stop motion blur, but at 440mm (35mm equivalent) at least you don't have to use 1/400s.

I've not used my FZ20 taking any sports events but I have used it in quite a few low light situations and it does very well at ISO 200 to capture shots at a long distance where a flash would be ineffective.

Things like school and church plays are really hard to photograph as it is usually dark and you are sitting so far away that a flash is useless. With the 12x zoom and ISO 200 you can really take nice pictures from a distance in low light. They aren't "noise free" but don't have that much noise and it removes easily with Helicon or Neat Image or even the new noise removal part of Photoshop Elements 3.
