Anyone heard anything positive or negative about this lens? I'd like to get a wide angle zoom or prime, but the Nikon 12-24 is out of my budget range. I like the constant aperture on the Tokina as compared to the Sigma and the fact that it can use filters like the Nikon.
Thanks

Bump...
I've been looking at this lens as well, but can't find any reviews or opinions on it either. |

I like my sigma 12-24.
BTW, the Sigma can take filters. The lens cap is 2 pieces and the center piece is removable and the other part has filter threads. Can also take gel filters behind the lens, but that's a PITA.

What are the gel filters? Is there a slot in the lens that these slide into or do they fit over the rear lens element?
Thanks! |

They are little pieces of gelatin or polyester that go over the rear element. There are 2 little spring clips to keep the filter from gfalling into the mirror box of the camera. I bought the 3"x3" polyester filters from Calumet, they are much cheaper and more durable than the Kodak Wratten filters. To change them, you have to remove the lens.

The Tokina 12-24 is a brand new lens and not available,as far as I am aware, at the moment in the UK as an alternative try This Tamron 17-35,

Tokina lenses are manufactured by Hoya and they have a been producing quality optics for a long time now. I am looking at the Tokina 28-70mm F2.8 AT-X PRO SV or the Tokina 24-200mm AT-X 242 AF. I was settled on the 28-70mm but now am leaning towards the 24-200mm.
