As a native born Clevelander, I completely hate the Stillers (as pronounced by people in Pittsburgh). I do have to say that they have had a great season. If they fall flat on thier face this weekend I will be a happy guy. |

Last time I rooted for the Steelers, they were playing the Cowboys in the Superbowl.
Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swan, Franco Harris and the Iron Curtain. Now those were the days....

I'm a Dolphins fan but live in Eagles country. When the Dolphins started their slow painful decline I figured I'd better pick a "backup" team. So, when the Steelers beat the previously undefeated Eagles, I had my team. GO STEELERS :)))))) |

This will be revenge for the AFC championship game in 2003 where we barely lost against the Patriots. Revenge is a bitch >:) |

Why would you all want to see the Steelers win the game against the Pats just to have your team and all your hopes and crushed by the Eagles?

One step at a time... :) Not to mention, we've already beaten the Eagles once...

There's an awful lot of "assuming" going on here... You have to figure the Patriots can handle the Steelers, until proven otherwise. The early-season game doesn't figure into the equation, this was before we ironed out our defensive injuries, and we didn't have Corey Dillon in the game.
Anyone want to make some wagers, with me taking the Patriots?
Robt.

Yes. If I remember right that was the game the Eagles forgot to put their starters in because they were already assured a playoff slot. I don't think they will play that way in the Superbowl.

Oh really? The Eagles had a playoff spot secured by November 7, eh? Better check your facts on that one... :)

I love how the Patriot fans make excuses for the first loss. The Steelers have had injuries ALL season and still ended up 15-1.
Overcoming adversity is the sign of a truely GREAT team. The Steelers overcame it all season..kicked the Patriots butt (and I do mean KICKED) during their "great winning streak" and then the next week, kicked the butt of the undefeated NFC powerhouse.
See how far the Patriots and the Eagels would have gone if they lost their QB in week 2. Oh yeah if my memory serves me right, didn't the Pat's lose to Miami? There is something to be proud of lol.
As far as Corey Dillon goes...Pittsburgh has been stopping him for years . The Steeler D has only given up 1, 100 yard game all season.
Here we go STEELERS...

My thoughts on the game this Sunday...the Pats were on a LONG winning streak when they found there way to Heinz Field and that winning streak ended. The Pat's current coach is undefeated in playoffs...another streak that has to come to an end.
And besides how would the Pats fans handle the the Spitting Eagle fans? The Steeler fans will just wipe up the spit and fling it back with the towel.
Go Steelers!!! |

Well, you can't be the first, but you can be the 101st... :) Right behind my pastor, a few other guys from church, some guy I got e-mail from the other day who I'd never heard of in my life, my in-laws, my dad, co-workers, former co-workers, some guy I met on the street the other day, etc.
Actually, this was in fact how I got to the last AFC Championship game in 2001... I worked as the "film boy" for the Sporting News. |

Oh how funny some of these Pats fans are.
Making it sound like Corey Dillon would have single handedly scored those 15 points in the first game to win it for the Pats. How NAIVE....
GO STEELERS!!

OK, I'm a Bears fan who lives in Packer country. I have no investment in this game other than a deep appreciation of both teams and what they have accomplished. Here is my absolutely impartial evaluation of the Pats-Steelers game this week:
Running Game
Gotta love the Bus and Duce. Corey Dillon is a great RB and a great addition to the Pats' backfield, but gotta go with the power on this one. Conclusion? STEELERS
Passing Game
Ben Roethlisberger is a phenom for sure, but he's still a rookie and coming off a miserable week. Tom Brady is da man in da playoffs and Mr. unshakable. Conclusion? PATRIOTS
Defense
This one is tougher than it looks. The Steelers have the number one defense in the league and are very well coached by coordinator Dick LeBeau. However, the Patriots play better together as a team, and are absolutely the best in big games. Even with questionable personnel, they seem solid and untouchable, as the proved against the monster Colt offense last week. Conclusion? A tough one, but I have to give the edge to the STEELERS playing at home.
Coaching
Very tough because both have outstanding head coaches, certainly among the best who have ever coached, and great staffs too. However, in a clinch, I can't bet against Belichick. Conclusion? PATRIOTS.
Special Teams
This one at least is easy. It comes down to the kicker. Adam Vinatieri is the best. Mr. Super Bowl. Mr. clutch kicker. Conclusion? PATRIOTS.
Intangibles
The Steelers beat New England in week 7, ending the Patriot's record streak of straight games without a loss over two seasons. So the Steelers have a swagger and the Pats want revenge? Not enough for either side. Last week, the Steelers narrowly avoided a defeat at the hands of the Jets and have to consider themselves lucky to be in the championship game. The Pats decisively pounded the Colts. So the Steelers are struggling in the post-season and the Pats are cruising? Again, not enough for either side. The real intangible, for me, is the rock steadiness of the Pats. This team has some special something that allows them to play at the highest levels even with Troy Brown filling in on defense, even without a star standout wide receiver, even without several key defensive starters. Somehow, they get it done. They're probably the best coached and best prepared team in the league, and they have proven they can win the big game. Conclusion? PATRIOTS.
My breakdown? Steelers 2, Patriots 4. Prediction for the game?
Patriots win 27-17. Roethlisberger will struggle and the Pats D will control the strong rush of the Steelers just enough to pull out the win. Trailing in the 4th quarter, the Steelers will have to pass, and Big Ben will get picked for a Pats defensive TD, putting away the game.

The pats gave up over 200 yards rushing last game...they won't control anything.

Edgerin James had 39 yards rushing on 14 attempts last week. The Pats have a record of being strong against the run in big games.
Sorry, rereading it, now I'm sure you meant the last time these two teams met in week 8. Yep, they rushed well, combined over 200 yards. I believe this weekend will be different though.
Let me say again, I have no emotional investment in this game other than the fact that it will be the playoffs at its best, and a chance to watch a hellova game. IMO, this is the REAL superbowl.
