wouldn't it be fun to see the # of photo's waiting critique to be 0....
what if there was a bunch of us who critiqued a number of photo's at the same time... we could do it.. we could do it.....

I got kicked off the CC for not doing enough CC's. I just did one (impromptu) on an image posted in the forums for comments, and the (very talented) photographer neither acknowledged my lengthy critique nor did he even thank anyone for taking time to look at his photo(s). I would love to do more CC's, but frankly, I'm no philanthropist, I want to know that my effort was appreciated!

Deal! I will look through your stuff in the next few days and leave a CC or two. :)

Yeah, there do seem to be some problems with the system :(

I think a lot of the problem is that as it is so simple to just do a tick as you enter a challenge a lot of people just click it automatically.

Effort then goes into a critique that the photographer does not really care if they get or not, and that dilutes the number of critiques the people who really get them receive.

I have taken to never ticking the box unless I really think the feedback, in addition to standard comments, will help.

What about ....

If it was just a little more effort to ask for a critique, so people only bothered if they were serious about it.

For instance, rather than just tick a box (takes me 1 sec) there was a link. Click on the link and there might be a box that gets you to comment on your own photo and then something like "I would like a critique because ....." box.

People who really want, and would thus value, a critique would fill that in. The casual "oh well, may as well tick that" crowd would not bother.

Asks for just a little more efort, which is not unreasonable as the person expects effort from the person who does the critique.

If people think this is a decent idea I'll repost under "web site suggestions".

I just thing the CC is a great idea, but one that just doesn;t quite work the way it is trying to as it is over loaded.

Not to be too capitalistic, but why not charge an extra $5 or $10 per year if someone wants thier images critiqued? That way, it is not just a freebie. Then the members doing the critiques could have discounted membership, depending how many want to recieve critiques and how many are giving critiques.

Hey, just my 2 cents...

There was some discussion about earning 'credits' for giving critiques. My wife participates in a writing website that works on critique 'credits' - you get so many when you join. You then offer them (so many, bonuses, etc) to get your work reviewed, and then earn more by reviewing other's work.

Is it really possible to be kicked off the CC for not doing enough?

I'm a relative newbie when it comes to challenges and if I were to be lucky enough to have received a critique I certainly would've appreciated it AND acknowledged it! I love people who comment on my stuff because I get to learn how I can improve.

I initially ticked that little box for critiques, but I haven't in the past couple challenges because I know the CC is overloaded with requests. I think the idea of making it more time consuming to get a critique is brilliant!

It was for a while... at that point the person who was in charge felt that members should/ must do a certain number of critiques a week/ month in order to stay members.

At that time I asked to be removed as I didn't see the club in the same regimented way. To me I felt that a member was of value whether they were able to do one (good) critique a month or 50. Each critique done is one less in the queue.

Since Manic and Ben, who are now looking after the CC, don't feel the need to impose lower limits on numbers of critiques done per month, I have rejoined.

Sometimes I can do a few more, other times I either don't have time or just am not in the right frame of mind...

I do think it very rude of that person who specifically asked for feedback in the forums not to have acknowledged the effort and time you put in - perhaps some people are actually looking more for ego-stroking or exposure than for genuine feedback. Either way, common courtesy dictates thanking people.

Is there a way to ask for CC comments on a certain picture or pictures in my portfolio, that was never into a challenge?

Technically these aren't actual CC critiques, but they're still critiques. A CC critique will put any photo you've requested a CC Critique for in the priority queue, as you have then become an active CC member for a week. This only works if you critique photos from the Critique Club area of the site under the community tab on the menu.

Without trying to confuse anyone, if I put a photo in the Individual Photo Forum and title it "CC member critique this please" I can ask for a CC critique on a pic not entered...

I'm up for trying to do some. I haven't done any at all for quite some time. I found doing those critiques (I'm certainly no expert) helped me with my own photo taking as well. I think trying to bring the outstanding number down is a good idea for the week.

Yep this is true, it just won't go towards the CC member's total for the week :)

I think this (or something like it) is a great idea! Asking for a critique ought to be a conscious effort on the part of the requestor.

At the Individual Photo Forum I hardly ever get a full in-depth critique. As a matter of fact, as far as I can remember I have only got such critique once.
Well, "nice work" is a nice comment and I always appreciate it, but I am looking for more comments regarding all aspects of the photo. Not just an over-all feeling.

Konador, as for the second part of your answer I'm afraid I didn't quite understand it.
I can not enter the Critique Club area of the site. I get the message it is only open for CC members.
I don't think I can become one, since I don't think I have enough knowledge of what's right and what's wrong in a photograph to actually critique someone else... so I'm in some kind of loop here :-\

There is no way to get shots properly done by the CC unless you enter them into a challenge. This could be changed in the near future as discussed in the "Proposed Restructure" thread.

When you critique a photo as an active CC member, your challenge photo requesting a critique gets priority over non CC members and inactive CC members. However, this only works if you critique a photo through the proper system, not the forums.

Also, I think you are just as qualified as anyone else to join the CC club. Looking at your portfolio you have some great stuff and obviously know what you're doing :)

Sorry, if this had been last week I could have helped but... shock horror, I actually have a lot of work on this week ... and I still let myself waste too much time yesterday so gotta get going for the rest of the week!

I have two suggestions, which I feel strongly about (but I recognize I may be in the minority):

1) Set very high standards for who is in the critique club so that there is a very high inherent value in receiving a critique from a CC member.

2) Set a limit to the number of photos for which a critique can be requested by a user (1/month).

I almost never ask for a critique for 2 reasons (which lead to my recommendations above).

1) I've seen CC critique's on other's photos and was unimpressed at times.
2) I know that everyone else asks for critiques and so I only ask when I truly want one...even then, I don't get it because of the volume of requests.
