It will be at the bottom of the last page of the voting pages.

Edit: Or go into your Preferences and tick the Scores box.

I finished voting on 100% of the entries last night. Over the last week it's taken quite a few hours - bit of a marathon! I've only commented on about 7% so far, but I plan to comment on more over the next week.

As for voting, I went through them all and rated them as I initially thought was appropriate, then went back through a couple of times, starting at the lowest scores, and bubbling up ones that I thought were better than I'd at first given credit.

There were of course many good entries. I ended up with:

10: 1
9: 3
8: 15
7: 32
6: 144
5: 174
4: 134
3: 25
2: 3
1: 0

I'm pretty certain when I go through to do more comments, there will be a few upgrades.

If people think I'm mean for voting 3s and 2s, it's not really. I was tempted to cast a few 1s also. In my opinion, people are here for a few reasons: to look at great photos, to learn to be better photographers, to be part of a community that is enthusiastic about the same thing they are.

If people want positive reactions to all their photos, then there are plenty of places to do that. At the end of the day, unless there is something blatantly wrong in a photo, it will get a 5. I don't think people should be disappointed with a 5-6, it basically means that there wasn't anything wrong with it, and to some people, it appealed particularly!

If it's a good photo, but there is something not quite right, a 4.

For me, 3 and 2 are reserved for when a photo has more than one thing amiss. These are not subjective points. In these cases, I'll comment to say what I think would improve the shot. This is the learning part. The fact is anyone can take a good photograph with any camera. Surely people would rather learn to become better photographs through constructive criticism, than just blunder on regardless.

8, 9 and 10, are for photos that appeal to me subjectively. It has to be like this, because it's only a photo that really appeals to me that will pass technically good and get those extra bonus points.

I'm not completely sure what my rules are, but it's something like this:

I start with 5.

Technically excellent +2
Technically good +1
Technically ok 0
Technically minor problems -1
Technically more than one problem -2

Very interesting subject +2
Interesting subject +1
Not very interesting -1
What subject? -2 Note: of course there are exceptions here.

Interesting post-processing +1, +2
No obvious post-processing 0
Detracting post-processing -1, -2

Creativity, story telling, intrigue, humour, spectacular aptitude etc. all have the potential to bump up to 8, 9 or 10.

So for example, a simple family portrait:

Start with 5: 5
Technically excellent: +2 = 7 Desired focus & DoF perfectly achieved, good lighting
Not very interesting: -1 = 6 Subject is simply posing

That basically means I appreciate the aptitude, but I'm not hit by anything new or exciting. A simple expression or something similar in the subject might remove that -1, or even add a +1.

Don't get me wrong, it's not an exact formula, just some personal guidelines to help me get through 500+ entries.

I'm under no illusions, looking at my portfolio, I'd probably give no more than 5 for most, but one or two I would vote 6 or 7 - that's my bias - those few appeal to me, but perhaps not to everyone. That doesn't bother me. I've learnt a lot in the last week just browsing other people's images.

The thing is, a great photo of your kids will be extra special to you, but just an accomplished photo to other people. Similarly, a landscape you've never seen before is striking to you, but to people who've seen a thousand landscape photos, there has to be something extra to get that extra point. I think the voting should reflect this. Let's be honest folks.

At the end of the day, if you feel like you achieved something, captured something, tried a new technique, improved upon your last shot etc, then that's what it's all about.

Anyway, I only joined last week, and didn't get round to entering a pic for this competition. Going to think about the faceless and old&new this weekend. Hopefully I'll manage to come up with something - then you can all give me a 1 for being mean - but you have to guess which is mine first though - haha!

Unbelievable!
I've finally managed to finish voting : )

But what's really unbelievable is the scores I've handed out. I don't give out many 10s (maybe 1 or 2 per challenge), or even 9s (3 or 4 per challenge) for that matter, but this lot has seen me throw out 20x10s, 22x9s and 73x8s! My average vote given is 6.25. (If anybody wants to see my extensive voting method, it's on my profile page).

I've really enjoyed the last 10 days of voting. Shame we can't do this again for another year! Now let's see if I can get a comment or 2 out in the next few days :-/

Count me as another one of the "perverse" submitters. I had any number of images I knew would score me a higher score, but I submitted the one I'm proudest of. Why? Because it was technically a HUGE problem, and it took me months of steep learning curve to make the image be what I wanted it to be.

Ironically, in comments I'm being downgraded for precisely the challenges I met square-on and wrestled into submission. Or, even more ironically, I'm being downgraded in comments for THE ONE ELEMENT OF THE PHOTO THAT CAUSED ME TO SHOOT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! People are assuming that the one part of the image I DIDN'T have to mess with is the part I manipulated. I get a certain wry satisfaction from that; nobody can see my editing, apparently; it's "transparent", and the one strong visual element that attracted me seems processed to folks. Go figger. But I love the picture regardless. It's my baby.

Hi Lewis,
We all see things differently in life and in photographs, and I for one, was absolutely astounded at the huge number of GREAT photographs in this challenge. I suspect your voting curve would be a little different if you had participated in the "trial by fire" so to speak, by submitting to challenges and understanding the time constraints, editing limitations and file size limitations. I for one give a 5 to a shot that meets the challenge, and move up/down accordingly.

My numbers came out VERY different in this challenge:
10: 16
9: 18
8: 125
7: 176
6: 144
5: 51

Maybe I was being too generous, but rather think I was impressed by the quality of so many good photographs.

no, brad, i don't think you were being too generous. when you really look at the entries, you really see a lot of good images and good efforts (as well as lot of astounding ones).

This is my final tally
Score: Count (% of total)
10s: 10 (1.89)
9s: 18 (3.40)
8s: 37 (6.98)
7s: 66 (10.38)
6s: 175 (33.02)
5s: 197 (37.17)
4s: 37 (6.98)
3s: 1 (0.19)

Can't be bothered to count right now, but I've certainly bumped up lots since that last post. My curve is distinctly more top heavy.

I agree, there were some really fantastic photos entered (and some not so good!).

Going through again, I've been drawn back to half a dozen again and again - naturally, these have received a boost to the top.
