hi all! looking for comment on noise factor. these shots were taken at ISO 1600 handheld with 50 mm 1.8 no flash...washed thru neat image and usual levels/cropping as needed. thanks!

Nice work! At this size, there is certainly not an objectionable level of noise to my eye, more like barely perceptible. Then again, I don't require my images to be buttery smooth; some noise is OK by me as long as it has a pleasant "feel". Would be interesting to see these at larger size, say 800px longest side.

wow, i never switch mine above iso 400 because noise is terrible... not really a problem in your shots. perhaps it would be more noticeable at bigger sizes tho. |

okay I uploaded 3 favorites and cropped on the most in focus porion...definately some noise in there.
Kirbic i think your right, the unfiltered images are not too pleasing at 100%, but with Neat image they are smooth.

Ah yeah, that's about how iso 1600 looks, alright. |

Wow...my last shots at ISO 400 turned out so noisy that the reduction killed every last detail.

Beautiful shots. Was it that you didn't have a tripod handy to use a lower ISO? They're just gorgeous.

The JPEG artifacts are more disturbing than the noise. Does the photo look like this straight from the camera?
