I have acdsee 6.0 and about 30,000 digital photos.
Will it be easier to rename/catergorise my photos before indexing/filing them with acdsee.
Or is it an easy task to do with acdsee?
Any help or tips or advice would be appreciated as I'm having a hard time understanding their help function.
Thanks very much.

I don't have half as many pictures as you, but I have a number and I use ACDSee 6 - There is a "batch rename" function that I use all the time and I find moving and copying pictures quite easy with it.

The commands I use are quite limited:
Batch Rename is under "tools" I think.
Select one or multiple pictures, hit "enter" - you go to full screen. You may need to adjust your preferences so that they will look like you want. What I want is to reduce only - so I'll see the picture entire.
Page up and Page down will scroll through the pictures. Delete will delete them. Ctrl-J will rotate. Ctrl-M will move the picture to where you want, Ctrl-C will copy it. It keeps track of the history of destinations which is handy for sorting. Enter takes you back to thumbnail view. THe Ctrl- commands all work the same on multiple selections.

Anyway, I've been using it for years for viewing and sorting and I find it very quick and very easy.

OK, next question....

I have all my pictures together on an external hard drive.
I'm making catergories/albums and dragging the relevant pictures to the relevant albums.
If I have some pictures of "Tom and Jerry" and I want to put the pictures in one album called "Tom" and in another album called "Jerry", is this going to cause my space usage to be doubled or will the same pictures simply be filed under the two different names?
If you know what I mean!!

No. It will just create a path to the picture fom each category you tag it with.
