| Does anyone know if the Canon 20D uses the same battery as the 10D? I purchased a backup "Digipower" brand battery that is listed to work for the Canon 10D. The sales person said it would also work on the 20D. The battery certainly fits the 20D but I noticed that Digpower is a 7.4V 1300mAh battery and the Canon brand has a 7.4v 1390mAh battery. Does this make a difference? Thanks for the advice. |

The "mAh" stands for milliampere-hours, and is a measure of how much energy is stored. For compatibility, the voltage is much more important. DPReview sez...
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Supports BP-511 / BP-511A / BP-512 / BP-514
The 511A is the battery that comes with the 20D, and the 511 is the one that came with the 10D. Only difference is the mAh (capacity).

Jacko told me that his BP511 generics (non-Canon) don't seem to charge on his 20D charger. They only charge on his G2 chrager. He could charge them in the past on his 10D battery charger. I'm not sure if he has brought this up for discussion yet. Just wondering if this is a function that Canon is using to encourage the purchase of Canon batteries.

I can charge the BP511 I got with my G2 in my 20D charger. It's the generics that don't work. I ordered a BP511/BP512 generic charger on ebay last week that I can also use in my car lighter. We'll see if that one works with my 2 generic batteries. I ordered 2 more at the same time I got my charger.

| Thanks for the info. I charged the generic on my canon charger and it didn't seem to be a problem. Haven't used it in the camera yet except to see if it worked OK. I am not sure how long the battery life is versus the Canon brand. |

The canon battery is 1390 mAh. I bought a couple of cheap ones (some crowd I found on the net) that are 1350 mAh.
I can not tell the difference in performance, and they cost only about $11.00 including postage. |

| The one I bought was $40.00. I thought it was a pretty good deal as the Canon is about $70.00 |

| I have a generic that charges up on the 20D charger and works fine in the 20D. It actually lasts longer than the Canon one. |
