I learned from here how to use my PSElements 2 to make a simple border. What I'd like to know is how to make one side of the border larger than the other three, for the purpose of a caption or title. Similar to this one, which I have done in Picture It (but I like PS better.)
For my regular borders, I use the change canvas command, and go by the pixel number. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Make sure the photo isn't as the background layer when you expand the canvas (cut and paste back in) then you'll be able to shift the layer with the photo up and make the bottom of the border bigger.

That would probably work really well if I had a clue how to use layers. :p I suppose there's no time like the present. |

Just tick "Auto Select Layer" on the top menu bar, then click the photo. Once you've done the expanding of the canvas, press the up arrow on your keyboard to move the photo up :)

You can also use the anchor in the PS's canvas size dialog.
Simply enlarge your canvas at the amount of pixels you would like to have all around.
Then enlarge it again with just the amount you would like to add to the bottom (or any of the other sides) of the photo, but mark the anchor's top arrow so that the canvas will only grow at the bottom of the picture.
By the way, for the layers - just double click the image you are working on - on the layer's window (where it says "background") - and it is a new layer.

I feel really stupid, but I do not see any "auto select layer" or anything similar in the task bar. This is PS Elements 2. |

I'll give this a try, thanks. |

Ahh sorry I didn't see you were using elements. It's probably in a different place somewhere :)
