Any complaints? Any suggestions?

Mmmmmm :D

I think there is too much space, the post is to central, the post is wonky, and the sky is out of focus.

However the idea is pretty cool, and it does look very dramatic in thumbnail view, but the soft sky and wonky post kind of ruin it a little.

There is a good shot in there!

Edit: maybe the post isn't too central..

I don't mind the central position, I have to agree on the blurry sky though. It would have been a really dramatic picture had the sky been sharper. I also like the space, sorry jon :)

I think jonpink's gut reaction is right - the post and lamp are too central - is the question of the title, "is that lamp heaven?" I'd be tempted to see what it would be like if the lamp were lower, more space above, using the lamp as something to set the scale rather than the subject.

But to give the impression of looking past the lamp - which by the title is what I think you want, then perhaps the sky needs more focus?

And thru the magic of Photoshop, I present to you takes 3 and 4-

What do you think?

edit: I'll be renaming the original "Mommy, is that what a lamp post looks like?"

Wonky? Never heard that word before; what does it mean?

Wonky means to be "on the wonk"...

Okay, gotcha! I'm going to start using it; it's really got a nice sound to it.

I could critique the image with a blank mind, but I think it would be more useful to you if we knew what you were trying to achieve with this image. In other words, why did you take the picture?

Was it a previsualized image you went after? Did you happen on it? Was the sky your main interest, or the lampost? What about the subject interested you? Did you intend symbolism? Was your goal to be purely an artistic image, or are you looking to know whether it would have mass appeal for a DPC challenge? There's nothing in the photographer's comments section, or your request so it's hard to know what your goals were in order to let you know if we feel you are on or off track.

My goal was to detail the magnificence of the sky, using the lamp post to set the scale. My goal in posting was to get suggestions on what would allow me to fully achieve that goal, and to see if a shot like that would have mass appeal.

Cool... Now post that in the photographer's comments :)

I'll leave a critique based on this information on the image...
