Right now snowing over most of Colorado, but forcast looks good for rest of week and into next week. Monarch Pass, w. of Salida was closed yesterday due to avalanche (lots of snow). If ya got a chance, Westcliffe (Sangre de Cristo Range) area, sw of Canon City is always nice this time of year. My favorite spot Have fun dress in layers. Van

Well, as far as salida and all that, it's flatland so you should be fine as long as you don't run your gears to high (in your car obviously) as far as aspen, there's snow in them there hills.. bring your 4x4. while you're up there, visit the Stanley Hotel (from the shining) and if you have time, venture south to haunted cripple creek.

Kosta, It is snowing hard right now here in La Jara which is about 70 miles south of Salida.
The weather in Colorado is so changeable - it can be cloudy and snowing one day and the next is sunny and bright, it will sometimes warm up and melt all the snow at once and make things super muddy. You can never tell what it will be like. It very rarely stays cloudy for several days in a row.
The weather in Colorado also differs a lot from place to place even if they aren't that far apart. The mountains really affect the weather patterns. You can drive through a blizzard in one area and 10 miles down the road it's sunny and calm.
Generally, I'd say you will get more than half good days to take pictures.
My husband and I love the Salida area and go there often to our favorite restaurant Amicas. Perhaps some of us Colorado people can get together and take some pictures and have dinner or something in Salida while you're here. Salida is equadistant from Pueblo and here. I know than Van Truan is in Pueblo and ancientimages is in Canon City which is very close to Salida.

A Pitsaman, If your in Salida Tuesday, I'll be heading to Grand Junction that morning. Maybe we could have coffee, lunch. Let me know your schedule, as a native, I know lots of places to take wildlife and mountain landscapes. Van

You should see it in early July -- the wildflowers are amazing. They are so great that the town hosts a Wildflower Festival. |
