I've never taken any shots of architecture. My first shots - what do you guys think? Not sure which is better color or b&w... Comments?

This would not do especially well in the challenge, I think; uninteresting light (light makes the architecture work, usually), arbitrary cropping, no colors or tonalities that sing.

Keep plugging away.

The windows are very ornate and its a well done photo.

But you need a bigger shot of the building, not just the window. Architecture is more about the entire structure not the small details of the building.

Cool shots though.

And when taking shots of buildings from below, you might want to utilize a little perspective correction in post processing. So that your shots do not look like they are taken from below. I assume that's DPC-legal.

Angle is everything in an Architecture shot (for me). Try it from a lower angle shooting up. Instead of trying to get the square on the one window, get low and shoot right up the corner of the two windows.

These particular shots I think the color works better.

Perspective correction is legal in advanced, but not in basic, editing.

Riggs, I'd disagree with you; architecture is often very much in the details. It's agreat truism of architecture that "God is in the details." Mies van der Rohe said that. Some of the very best architectural photos of all time are of parts of the whole.

From my perspective, I'd say without a doubt the best results in this challenge will be marked by their skillful use of light & luminance.
