What did you think when you first heard that they were putting cameras into cell phones? Didn't you think that there could be a downside to them? Just as with cell phone use while driving, the usage has grown to the point of being unmanageable before we thought thru all the possible negative side effects; and put in the preventative measures to counteract them. Now that hugh profits are being generated it becomes almost impossible to put in even modest controls like the camera's beeping sound, or requiring hands-free options for the driver.

If you only want to use your phone camera for legitimate pics, what is the problem with it making a noise?

Banning them completely is one thing, but it seems they are more looking at making them go BEEP!

Why would people have a problem with that unless they are trying to use the camera covertly?

Very good point Simon.

At what point is there too much government regulation and interference in our lives. Where does it stop. will beepers be required on regular cameras.

There are already laws against taking pics up womens dresses. This is way too much government

We wouldn't have to worry about government regulations if we lived in a world where people weren't always trying to rip others off or invade their privacy, there have already been too many cases of people being photographed in the bathroom/locker room/changing room, etc...its sickning. Taking a picture with an actual camera is much less secret than camera phones. If it keeps people from trying to do illegal than its a great idea.

won't happen.

I wouldn't be so sure. All it takes nowadays is a couple of pedophiles, or the likes, and a group of "concerned individuals".

There's too much of a constitional issue for cellphone/cameras to be banned. The most likely course of action would be stronger mandated sentencing for people caught using them in a commission of a crime - such as sex offenses.

The judicial system responds to the desires of large groups people. Which group of people generally depends on which party's in office at a given moment. You can't ban guns, but you can regulate their use and punish those caught accordingly. You can't prohibit alcohol (it was tried and people rebelled), but you can add additional punishments to people caught driving under the influence. You can't ban cameras, but you can regulate their use, also. Someone caught photographing unsuspecting women in a public/private bathroom can surely be punished.

You can make a phone 'beep' when taking an image, but unfortunately someone will figure how to over-ride that feature and put it on the net.

Sometimes legislators can try, with good intent, without accomplishing a damn thing except more legislation.
