In September 2004, hubble took this photo (actually a "pano" of two adjacent images) of NGC1300 using the ACS (Advanced Camera for Surveys). It is one of the most incredible astrophotos I have ever laid eyes on. If you dare, download the full resolution TIFF, all 62 megabytes worth!

Enjoy!

Unbelievable image. Looking at the high res version, it's amazing how many other background galaxies were captured in this shot. This is some universe. We're lucky to be living in the age of Hubble.

Some politicians want to let the Hubble die.

Why don't we let cell phone cameras die and put the resources into more Hubbles?

The James Webb Space Telescope is slated to replace Hubble, but there may well be quite a gap between the demise of Hubble and the launch of JWST. We really need a service mission to Hubble.

for any of us who know absolutly nothing about space photography, I found this to be pretty interesting.

I'll go. =) As long as the challenge for that week is going to be 'infinite spaces' =)

Yes! In fact, the site has an incredible amount of information for both hardened science buffs and beginners alike. Truly one of the most amazing places on the web.
You can also sign up for e-mail notification of Hubble news releases, which happen about 2-3 times per month, usually.

Thanks for the link to JWST kirbic.
