I'm new to the site (I haven't even posted any pictures yet), but I'm in need of help.
I am currently using a Canon A310. It's a nice camera, but my big complaint with it is its horrible lack of any optical zoom!! Now that I'm really getting into photography (I'd love to sell prints someday if I could), I really want a good camera with an optical zoom.

My problem is, I only want to spend at most $800, and it HAS to use Compact Flash (I can't afford to go buy other memory cards). I'm currently looking at the Canon S1 IS, Canon Powershot Pro 1, and Minolta A200. I need it to be able to take good outdoor shots, and especially macro (I take a lot of pictures of insects).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The three you've picked are all fine cameras. The S1 would probably be better for macro than the Pro 1, but the compromise is not as many megapixels. Another that fits your parameters is the Nikon 8400- street price $760, uses CF cards. It doesn't have as much zoom (3.5x) but the wide end of it's zoom range is considerably wider than most prosumer cams (24mm compared to 28-35mm), and it's macro focus range starts at a very close 1.2 inches.

Welcome to dpc. Looking forward to seeing some great bug pix from you.
