The other day I got a comment on this pic that it looked a bit flat around the rocks. I tried to photoshop it to give it some shape. How did I do?

The second one looks much better. The original shot had a lot of blown highlight areas. The rocky areas are better too. Good job.

It looiks like you may have applied USM or other sharpening to the original? In my experience, you're better off adjusting your tonalities (you did a good job of this) before applying any sharpening to the image. If you are working with Photoshop native files (which you should be) you can do your sharpening on a cloned layer, then adjust the transparency of thius layer to fine tune the sharpening effect.
I find the manipulated version much better, but it seems a tad oversharpened to my taste.
