As I mentioned in another thread, I just ordered the Canon 10-22 lens.

I want to use this for landscapes, and want a graduated filter with it.

I am thinking about using the Cokin P system for this. Any advice/thoughts on that decision?

However, I see there are various colors of Grad filters for this system; any advice beyond going with a plain old NG?

Any other filters I should start with?

Also: I never did get a polarizer for my 70-200/4L either (so expensive!), so maybe I would get two adapter rings, 67 and 77 and a circular polarizer? Would that be better than getting a 77 circ and sharing it with a 67-77 step up?

I have rad a bit about the Cokin filter system...trying to make sense of it at b&h website..

What is the A series and P filters? Same, different, am i confused (likely)

I assume (never assume, i know) that the filter holder/filters will fit a large array of lenses with only adapter rings (step up ones i suppose)

Of course the first hit on cokin P shows up a $330 circular polarizer...but then i see adapters for $8...mystified, i am.

Seems like i might want to go this route...especially since i now understand it!
//www.adorama.com/ckp164.html circ pol P for $57. Not too bad a price at all. I LOVE polarizer filters, but am without for a while (got my Rebel yesterday..kinda gotta pay it off before the better half lets me spend more ;)

Still not sure what this is

Is the the filter holder itself? just add filters and rings?

I think this is similar, but a better explanation, so it appears it's the filter holder. The one I am pointing to here only holds one filter at a time.

Well, first of all, I'm glad you ordered the lens and that you don't have to enjoy it vicariously through me ;) and second, I use the Cokin P system. I chose Cokin mainly because I hate the vignetting associated with screw in filters. I have no complaints other they scratch quite easily, but then again, they're not that expensive. I have a linear...yes, linear...polarizer, graduated gray, ND, graduated blue, sunset, yellow, one of the star filters, warm, and two different strength diffusers. Honestly, I rarely use any of them and when I do it's mostly the polarizer and the graduated gray.

So how does the linear work on the Rebel? If i recall correctly, it will mess up the light meter reading cause it used ploarized mirror to bounce the light or some such.

I have a linear in 52mm...fits my 50mm 1.8... i may have to try it and see what happens.

Cokin Filters A/amateur P/proffessional.
the P series are a larger size used for medium/large format. Also good value are the LEE range, I have the grad grey cokin ones which are the ones I use the most along with the circ polariser.
