Well I was out in the back shooting for the Bokeh challenge, and i took some pretty good pictures. These are out-takes, and nothing like the one that I will submit but I'd just like some comments. (They are the same picture just the bottom one is desaturated. Pretty obvious but hey, you never know.. ;)
Thanks

Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion
I like both versions of the shot you posted, however I think that this is more an example of shallow DOF vs. Bokeh imo. I would be looking for patterns (usually spherical) to the OOF area that enhance the image.
Just my 2cents I could be way off base here
You can see the bokeh in these two images pretty easily however it isn't the prettiest due to the 50mm 1.8 having few blades.

Hey thanks for replying. Your point is correct and that is one of the reasons that I am not entering this shot in the challenge. Still, I like it and was looking for some comments on the photo itself as well.
Thanks

I will second Jared's comment. I also like the pictures but agree there is no 'bokeh' in the shot.

Since you asked... pretty boring subject, composition and light, generally speaking. I would rate it extremely low in the bokeh challenge. The branches that are farther away are somewhat blurred, but not in an appealing way... hate to be all negative, but you asked and i hope it helps in some way.

The image, for me, describes 'alone' to perfection. Aloneness (for some people) can be an unhappy and debilitating feeling. (I speak here of that kind, rather than the 'alone and contented' kind). There is a desolateness about the photograph - it is gray and flat and includes the negative space. A single dejected looking leaf hanging from the slender twig. The twig is in focus to the fore and 'away' from the others - which seem to form their own clique in the distance. I like the photo and find it to be a good representation of the first kind of 'alone' as described above. I imagine that is what you are trying to capture? To me you have done that (even without the title). Unfortunately, I do not feel qualified to comment on the more technical aspects of the camera settings and any photoshop work.
