I am getting an irresistable urge to buy the unaffordable Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.

Seems the perfect addition of focal lengths, since I have the Sigma 18-125, and the Canon 70-200/F4L. I love wide shots.

I was reading the reviews on Fred Miranda, and it seems, though not an L lens, it is apparently very good quality. Average price paid seems to be around $725, but I only saw one price near that, at Dell, and it was obviosly expired. Mostly around $799. That's more than I'd like to spend on a lens! I can't believe I bought the 70-200 for $650 or so.

But I do like what I read and saw:

Reviews: Here (Fred Miranda's Site)
Great samples: Here

I realize the major drawback of this lens is that it only works on the Rebel and 20D. But is there another lens nearly as good as this, and in this mm range, for say $400 or less? Do lenses eventually get reduced in price? Are there other 10-22mm lenses on the horizon?

(I have been reading about the Sigma 12-24 as well, but it doesn't quite go as low, and the reviews were more mixed.)

Thoughts, ideas, ... this is getting to be an expensive part of my life!

I'd love to have something 10mm or so -- I'm with you, I love wide angle although I didn't at first, it's growing on me. Oh this post is about you and your lens choice -- sorry, I can't offer any feedback on it or anything comparable for that matter.

I'll enjoy it vicariously for now. Looking at your already nice portfolio, I see some ribbons in your future with these nice lenses.

32mm F/2??? Haven't heard of that one... Cannon? How much? Gotta link?

Edited to add: GET THE 50mm F/1.8! YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HOW SHARP IT IS FOR THE PRICE! Mine almost never leaves the camera... of course I can't afford anything else right now...

Did you get the 10-22 from Dell? At the $715 I saw on one of the pricing sites? If so, when did you order? When I clicked the link it gave me the $799 price!

Dell had a 15% discount on some camera equipment but the offer expired on 01 06 05. Price on the 10-22mm came out to $716.51
Also of note on these super wides is that -
Olympus has a new wide angle comparable to this one and is a stop faster.

Well I tried to get it yesterday, 1/6! They could have sold me one (probably) if that price had come up!

I've heard almost nothing but good things about the 10-22, among others that the only thing keeping it from wearing an L badge is the EF-S mount.

I was going to wait until next month to order it, but meh. There are extreme angles waiting to be captured, damnit

Sometimes it's best to pay attention to your urges!

You folks really let me down. I asked for help, but did you stop me... no. I'm out of control.

I just ordered it from Dell on a 10% off coupon for $719.

Now for my revenge:

The coupon code is: CPR?HG47B5530F

It's either good today only or to 1/12, there's ambiguous data for that on XPBargains.

Now, there you go. Try and stop yourselves. ;)

Throw in your credit card number along with that code and I might be interested ;)
