1. The visitied links color doesn't change to purple (default setting). It stays in blue.
2. On websites that require to login and type a password, the password manager is not activated when returning to these websites in the future.
Any fix.... reading/tutorials/tips?
Thanks a bunch.

You know I get the reverse on my machine, all my links come up purple, like they've been visited before (even after I clear my cache), and my password manager works even if I tell it not to remember a password. Hmm, yeah, anybody know what's up? |

I have the same problems. Links never turn purple, (especially disconcerting on ebay when I'm hunting stuff), and sometimes the password manager works, sometimes it doesn't.
I also hate that when I go to a forum thread, then back to the home page ,it ALWAYS goes back to the top of the page, NOT where I was before. |

Right now, Firefox is still on it's first version. It's a great browser and I certainly use it. However, IE 6 is the industry standard and most sites are designed with this in mind, which is why some things in Firefox do not work correctly.
BTW I would not recommend to anyone to use a password manager on any Web Browser. With all the dangers out on the web, i.e. Trojan Viruses and spyware, I would never do this!!! |

First thing to check - are you using the latest version?
For link colours, check the setup under tools->options->general->fonts & colours.
For passwords look under tools->options->privacy->saved passwords->view saved passwords->passwords never saved. It may be that you have previously told Firefox not to handle passwords for certain sites. You will be able to remove them from the exclude list here.
I have used Firefox on a mixture of Linux and Windows machines for a long time and have never seen either of these problems.

This was discussed a while back, and while it's annoying, Firefox is actually doing exactly what the site is telling it to. Internet explorer is, as usual, inventing it's own non-standard behaviour.

More on links not changing colour ... a quick search on mozillazine turned this up:
Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > History
Make sure that there is a non-zero value set.

I would have thought that a trojan would be far happier simply logging your keystrokes as you typed your passwords rather than trying to decrypt them from the password manager? Either way, you're better off not using Windows if you're that worried!

Not really worried, I feel that I have a good grasp on PC security. I've just seen too many people get hacked and lose information. I also use a Mac and I don't use Keychain either. IMO I just feel that storing passwords on your PC or Mac is taking a risk.
BTW, My mistake on the Trojan Viruses. |

This is actually defined on a per-site basis, either in the tag, or via CSS style sheets. Some sites, such as our very own DPC, do not specify different colors for visited vs. non-visited links, so there is no "color change". This is the HTML designer's preference.
One way around this is to go to Tools > Options..., and in the "General" section, click the "Fonts & Colors..." button, and then click the "Always use my... Colors" checkbox. But be aware that some sites may look very ugly when you do this. |

I have Firefox 1.0. The colors are set correctly (blue for unvisited, purple for visited)
I looked under passwords and they show up in the "saved passwords" and nothing in "never saved"

Yup, this was the culprit. I changed it to 1 and it worked.

Thanks Eddy, I knew about this. I first noticed it when browsing my own site and didn't bother me at first but eventually did.
