I'm having this problem with the mirror when I'm trying to clean the sensor...sometimes the mirror closes back down like 10 seconds after I lock it up. Luckily my brush has never been in the way before, but it is pretty scary... My battery indicator reads full so I don't think that is the problem. Does this happen to anyone else?
Thanks,

No, it hasn't happened to me. It sounds like something you want to check out with Nikon (or the place where you purchased the camera). If the shutter closes on your brush and is damaged, you could be in for a high repair bill (not covered by warranty).
One thing I would suggest is to put a fully loaded battery in the camera, as the power indicator (at least on my D70) reads full until it rather quickly reads half and then depleted. I think the manual suggests using a freshly recharged battery to operate the mirror lock-up.
BTW, what sort of brush are you using? Isn't it sort of dangerous to use a brush on a sensor? I read somewhere that repeated use of one of these brushes to clean sensors can lead to sensor damage. Anybody know about that? |

I'm using a sensor brush from www.visibledust.com. People rave about it. It was specifically designed for this purpose. Works great |

Only had to blow mine out over the last 6 months. haven't had to resort to the "cleaning."
Definitely clean the sensor AFTER JUST recharging the battery. I get the same results on battery "sensing" as ursula does.
I have had mine locked up to blow it out, without a problem.
