I just got back into town. I will be up for a day... gotta settle in first. Perhaps mid-week for a few hours!!! What's best for you?
12/26/2004 02:01:11 AM · #27
Mid week for a few hours would work fine for me! Say Wednesday? I was planning a metro expedition, but if you have a better idea, I'm up for that as well. Anyone else want to join up?

I would love to but I have to work!
12/26/2004 03:35:14 AM · #29
Too bad Eric...I have the week off and plan on taking advantage of some photo time. Hopefully, we will see you at the January GTG!
12/27/2004 11:44:03 AM · #30
Well, with the rains, I don't think I'm going to be able to get out this week. Bummer. Tha January GTG still looks good though. Hope to see you all then!

Have we chosen a date yet? :) So far I've seen the 29th.
12/31/2004 01:00:14 AM · #34
The 29th is good for me. Who else is ok for that date?
12/31/2004 03:06:55 AM · #35
The 29th is great for me too!!! :)
12/31/2004 04:12:57 AM · #36

01/04/2005 01:49:53 PM · #37
i hope you can make it, brian! I am really looking foward to getting out there with you all again!

so, do we know exactly where we are going yet?
01/04/2005 01:58:10 PM · #38
I don't think we discussed locations yet... any thoughts?
01/04/2005 04:58:40 PM · #39
Socal, I was thinking I might be free that day too. Were you still thinking about touring downtown L.A. on the metro train or something like that?

I'm up for that or anything else really... What says the rest of the LA crowd? If not on that date, I'd be interested in doing the metro/downtown trip on another weekend.
01/04/2005 05:40:12 PM · #41
If we go early, I would love to go into the toy and flower district of downtown (not alone though), so I'd want you all with me. It's not the safest area, and it'd be really great to photograph though! We'd all have to stick together if we went!

If we start late, i would like to go to Sunset Strip and get photos of the lights, cafes, etc.

Other ideas:
Parks or Lakes
Macro work (anywhere)
Burbank (Equestrian Center)
Padadena (tree lined streets & shops)

What do you all want to do this time around? Remember, it's january and still may be cold. Hopefully it will not rain and hopefully we'll have clear skies :)

The downtown districts might be fun for an early morning outing. That would give us time to hit different stops along the metro on the return trip, like hollywood, universal city and such. I'm not sure though how early the metro starts running. I'll see if I can find out and post back.

EDIT: Looks like they start running at 8 a.m.

I would park in Chinatown in my old neighborhood, for free, then take a Dash and meet you all in the flower district (dash is really cheap, only 25 cents).

For me to take the metro everywhere with you, i'd need a ride back to my car later. I would not mind driving to various spots, then letting you off at a metro to go back home though if you want, chuck. I am not sure i am up for an early morning and a late night, but if we do early, we could hang out til mid afternoon... we'll see. who knows, i might make it all day!!!! :)

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Well, that sounds like too much of a hassle. Although we could meet at the North Hollywood Metro, which shouldn't be too far from you. In any event though, since it doesn't start running until 8, the flower district would probably be out since they get going REALLY early.

I agree, I wouldn't want to do both early morning and late night. Like I said earlier, I'm pretty much up for anyplace, so anything the group would like to do is fine with me. Another possible location if anyone is interested is the Getty Museum.
01/05/2005 12:19:47 AM · #45
I would normally say yes to the Getty, but I have been there too many times recently. I would love to go downtown still if you wanted to come in. We could go to the flower district from 8:30am til 10am then wander from there. Or, do you know of any great gardens or places with wildlife? A trip to Griffith Park might be fun too!
01/05/2005 12:32:49 AM · #46
OK, Getty is out then. Downtown is fine with me, and Eric (Photomayhem) wants to go downtown as well. How's that with the rest of the gang? Griffith Park is OK with me too. I know there's the train town there as well as the zoo... what else is around there?

If we go downtown, I would probably take the metro down from the North Hollywood station. A full day pass is like $3 or so. Would anyone else want to do the same? Some of us could probably carpool to and from the station.

Other possible locations could be the Huntington Library or the Los Angeles Arboretum... I will add other possible locations as they occur to me.

I'm cool with downtown and griffith park area. I don't mind driving down to north hollywood and parking my car somewhere and getting on the train. I'd like to at least meet up with someone that knows how the metro works and where it goes because I have no idea and I don't want to get stuck downtown somewhere. So, socal69, I might just meet you wherever you plan on boarding the train.

I have never been to the Arboretum! Where is that? Is this a good time to go?

We could go downtown, then to Griffith Park. There are no Metro's to Griffith Park though, that i know. I live right by Griffith Park, and i don't see any Metro's around here...

Griffith Park has the Hollywood Sign lookout, the view of all of Hollywood, a Carosel, Zoo, Trains, nature... it's a cool place!

Let me know

When you guys do your GTG's, do you bring all of your lenses and everything that will fit into your camera bag / camera backpack? I have a backpack full of equipment and I'm just wondering if I should bring the whole thing or not...

Eric
01/05/2005 04:44:57 PM · #50
i'd bring anything you think you may need... cuz once you leave just that ONE lens at home is when you'll find you need it the most (or it seems that way, anyways)

edit: then again, maybe my pack isn't quite as heavy as yours - i could see how it could be a little overwhelming if it's too heavy
