I discovered this photo by Grigrigirl (Julia Bailey) last night and really had to look at it for a while before forming my own understanding of what it's about. It was entered in the Scents and Aromas challenge. She is most noted on DPC for her seductive and sensual beautiful nudes so then how did she come up with a picture like Eau de Toilette? Its portrays a model in not the most flattering means and its setting is a public rest room. What do you make of it and what do you think it's about?

She's playing with words. Eau de toilette means, literally, 'toilet water'.

I think you are reading too much into it. Look at her comments "just having some fun". |

I think it is a dam good shot. It has popped alot of ideas into the limited gray matter I have left.

What it is, it seems to me, is a takeoff on a genre of fragrance ads that place stunning models in bizarre locations, and "Eau de Toilette" is a very appropriate generic takeoff on a perfume name, since every fragrance comes as a perfume (expensive) and an eau de toilette (considerably less expensive). And she's in a toilet stall, of course...
So it's a visual/verbal pun that requires a certain familiarity with commercial photography trends to fully appreciate.

not sure and i could certainly be wrong, but since i've seen it before i guess i already have a thought. my impression was always that it was perhaps a criticism of the vain. an 'anything in the name of fashion' sort of thing. however, i wouldn't be surprised if i was wrong (or as keegbow mentioned, if she didn't necessarily think much of it other than a clever juxtaposition).
edit: or what bear mentioned.. that sounds pretty convincing :p
